Lucerne is a beautiful city in central Switzerland and is also considered the tourist capital too. The beautiful city is located between snow-covered mountains and is surrounded by a breathtaking lake.
If you are planning to travel by train, or bus within multiple cities in Switzerland, getting a Swiss Travel Pass might be perfect for you. As you will get to travel on any train, bus, or ferry service in Switzerland and you also get discounted tickets to many attractions. We even got on the cogwheel train up to Mount Rigi for free which saves a lot of time.
Day 2 – Brienz, Brunig Halisberg, Lucerne, Rigi Kulm
We started our day early and left our place by 7 am so that we can enjoy more daylight. Also, if you are boarding a train you may have to start a little early but it is worth it as you will find all the places less crowded. Again and again, I highlight that Swiss transport is fantastic.
We haven’t decided which place to explore today but since the weather looked clear we went ahead for a day trip to Lucerne. The entire train journey to Lucerne is so scenic.
Reached the Lucerne around 10 am and straight headed to take the Lucerne Lake Tour. Will definitely recommend this scenic Lake Tour to get a beautiful view of the place. The Lake Tour is around 1-1.5 hours.
This Lake Tour is also included in the travel pass so we didn’t have to buy anything extra and just boarded. The entire place is so scenic and calm.
We got down at Vitznau around 11 am and took the cogwheel train to Rigi Kulm, to be honest, this was not on our plan and we didn’t search for it before. We just took the Lake Tour and saw many people getting down at Vitznau so assumed that it is probably one of the touristy or famous locations so thought to give it a try.
I must say it has not disappointed us because this was the very first place where Kids got to experience the snow for the first time ever and they were totally on the cloud nine.
We spent close to 2 hours as we climbed a little to the peak and kids wanted to play in the snow.
One thing to keep in mind is that the cogwheel trains run on an hourly basis and we missed our train by a few minutes due to which our next plan to visit other places didn’t work.
But spending time here and enjoying this view was simply amazing and we didn’t regret missing our train. Do make sure that you are wearing proper shoes as it was damn slippery while climbing up.
