Have you ever thought of spending a night at the airport camping? Isn’t it feel quite exciting that you can camp at the airport and not just went there to board a flight? Aayan and Kaira were pretty excited when I told them that we will be camping at the airport.
We packed our bags and headed for a 2-day 1-night fun-filled family adventure at Changi Experience Studio, Jewel Airport and loads of educational, crafty, fun trail programmes.
We checked in at the Changi Experience Studio, Level 4, Jewel Airport and kept our luggage and bags in the lockers provided to us. Since our luggage is already checked in we were free to explore now!
Build an airport of the future Craft Workshop
Bring on that creativity and build a future airport together as a family. Don’t underestimate this futuristic activity thinking oh! This is a kids’ thing. We got this little carry-on luggage to build an airport and the best part i you can just pack and take it along.
Right from painting, decorating and cutting every single piece, I bet all together this is a collective effort by the family. Here we are with our very own mini “Airport of the Future” and don’t miss the control tower, beautiful and dreamy rainbows and paper plane. We brought this home with us- Our very own Futuristic Airport!
In between various activities, we had some free and easy time to go for lunch, snack break etc and do that the meals are not part of this camp. Also, you are not allowed to bring any food to the camping location. You have ample of food joints, a food court, fast food, and restaurants at Jewel for your mealtime.
Amazing Airport Family Quest
Let’s get set and go on a “Journey Through Time” Family Quest fun trail across Jewel Airport and Terminal 1 to hunt for some fascinating facts, a little history, some clues and a dose of smartness! All the families started together online and then headed according to the various clues/questions they got on their Quizzes. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes as we walked across the airport for almost one and a half hours.
Some fun facts we learnt while putting our knowledge to the test but I will say with my 15 years and 10 years old, it was much easier as they knew the answers just figuring out the locations was time-consuming.
Do you that “Prior to the building of Jewel, the space was originally Terminal 1’s Open-air……”
After close to 2 hours of fun activity, we gathered again at Changi Experience Studio to share our experience. The next activity on our list is Climb @T3.
Exciting Rock Climbing Experience @T3
Since we have got our slot booked and waited for our time slot, Kaira and Aayan went on the Slide @T3 which is another fun activity to do whenever you are at Terminal 3. It is advised to reach 15-20 minutes before your booked slot timings for a quick briefing by the Instructor and one of the parents has to be there to help out.
This rock climbing has different difficulty levels so kids can choose and switch between if they find one particular section is too easy or too difficult for them but whatever way it was a fun activity.
Points to note for rock climbing
- Comfortable sports attire suitable for climbing
- Covered shoes with socks (climbing shoes available but subject to sizing availability). Socks are compulsory and will be sold at $1 per pair if needed.
- Bottoms to be suitable for harness wearing
- For participants with long hair, do tie them up neatly prior to putting on the harness
Changi Experience Studio
Kids have got so many activities to do and explore every station inside Changi Experience Studio.
Be a pilot for a day with Flight Simulator
Kids got lucky to fly a plane and be a pilot for a day, so if you ever dreamt of flying a plane don’t miss this opportunity. On that day, the actual pilot was there to assist kids and guide them on some pointers when flying a plane and this was definitely a memorable experience for them. Oh! Did I mention that I tried it too, of course why not -let me fly a plane too.
Magical Sleepover
Camping at the airport is definitely a magical experience, the team set up the tents for all the families and every family got 2 tents and each tent was good enough for 2 people. The check-in time for the sleepover was 8.30 pm after everything was closed to the public and we got a private area for our camping.
We can’t hold our happiness because we got the tents just facing a rain vortex and can’t ask for more. It was such a gorgeous view to enjoy and that too sitting in the comfort of our tent. Every tent comes with an Air mattress and you can bring along your blanket, pillows etc and it gets cold later in the night so having a light jacket is good.
There were plenty of board games for the entire family to enjoy together. We spent a lot of time playing Scrabble, Twister, and Checker. Overall, it was a fun camp and a unique experience as well. Just a quick highlight of this camp and other important things needed during the stay.
