Winter Trip Essentials | What to pack and stay light – Europe Family Travel Series (part 2)

Winter trip essentials

Winter Trip Essentials for someone like us who lives in a tropical country like Singapore means you have no winter clothing. The only colder place we travel to is Delhi, India our home. When you go to your own home, you really don’t need to pack that much and also Delhi is cold but not like European cold weather.

Now, we will be travelling to 0 and below weather, with kids, you need to pack accordingly for the extreme weather. So it’s time to shop but then for our close to one-month travel we wanted to travel light. As we will be moving from one country to another means we have to take our luggage with us everywhere.

Here are some of the essential wear which has really helped to stay warm in the extreme weather when we used to stay for the entire day outdoors. I must say layering is very important and it helps to stay warm in the chilly and windy weather.

Uniqlo HEATTECH

I wore this as a base layer for almost the entire time as it is light, stretchable and keeps you warm. It is good to go with a jacket if the weather is not too cold.Winter trip essentials

Love Bonito:

Absolutely loved this Turtle Neck Knit dress which is light but quite warm. A good warm dress adds style to your regular winter wear. I am wearing my base layer under it and on a very cold day, you can add a middle layer too.

Uggs: They are a must and keep your feet warm and comfortable. Though the ones I am wearing are not for walking in the snow or rain but they are super light to walk around and warm, I feel like wearing them at home too.
Winter trip essentials Hiking snow shoes/ Winter boots:

They are perfect for walking, hiking, and playing in the snow or in the rain. These shoes too have a fleece inside so keep your feet warm. You can go for high boots for more coverage.

Fleece Leggings:

A must carry with you and this is the best for the winter season. I took along two pairs of thick leggings with fleece inside. It is damn comfortable, soft and saves you.

You can wear it under your dress, skirt or a long coat and the weather turns really cold or windy, I prefer wearing a layer of jeans on top of it. I am all decked up.Winter trip essentials

Puffer Jacket:

Bring along a puffer jacket and wear it either or together with a base layer, the middle layer. Wore it along with a fur beanie and a scarf as it got quite chilly.Winter trip essentials

The North Face Parka:

I will call this my saviour on this entire trip, it is super warm with amazing head-to-knee coverage, a hoodie, and pockets and waterproof so not worried whenever heading out wearing it. I wore this at -15 degrees at Matterhorn, Switzerland.Winter trip essentials

Fur cap, Beanie, Gloves, Scarf:

Don’t forget to bring them along as you definitely need them. While we lost our gloves a couple of times as not so used to them so keep forgetting them after we took them out but then our hands were dead freezing.

A good fur beanie is really helpful as it gets quite windy and chilly, a scarf does the dual purpose it adds a little style as well as protects you too.

A little trick whenever we were boarding a train with our luggage or taking a flight, on that day we all wore our heaviest jackets and shoes as they occupy the most place.
