Our living room is the place where we spend most of our time together as a family and deciding on a good sofa is quite important. When you have kids at home it becomes the most adventurous place too and our kids are not so young now so we decided to switch to a new sofa.
We love watching movies, Netflix, Bingo nights, reading, working, our Chess games, and potluck with friends and this is the place we have all beautiful memories made together.
All the while we had a fabric sofa and thought it goes well when you have young kids and it is washable. We never thought to go for a leather sofa, especially in this humid Singapore weather or to get a customised sofa for us.
I did a poll on Instagram to find out the trusted furniture stores with which everyone had made a purchase or had a good experience and out of the list from King Living, HomesToLife, Castlery, Forty-Two, Hands Down etc we decided to go with HomesToLife.
HomesToLife
To make the entire process easier, I am listing a few pointers when looking for a sofa. We decided to go ahead with Homes to Life and honestly we made a couple of visits there before finalising it. As we wanted to involve Aayan & Kaira while choosing the design, style, colour etc.
Material -Leather or Fabric
This is the most important factor when deciding for a sofa whether you want to go with a fabric or leather for your home. It is totally an individual preference and we had an experience of having both in our home.
Felt when my kids were young and we were moving houses I opt for a simple and easy to use washable kind.
Leather Variety
I got to know so much about Leather while buying one for our home that leather sofas available in the market are either Full Leather or Half-Leather. Full Grain Leather is expensive as compared to Half-Leather.
Full Leather is a combination of top-grain leather on all seating areas, with split leather on the sides and back of the sofa while Half leather will have top grain leather on seating areas, with synthetic leather – also known as PU – on the sides and back of the sofa.
Type of Leather
Leather can be classified as Aniline, Semi-Aniline or Protected. They all have distinctive characteristics and require different maintenance methods. Full aniline, the finest leather available and is extremely comfortable and soft to the touch. Semi-Aniline is a bit similar to Aniline except that they are treated with an additional protective finish to prolong the colour lifespan. The grain remains unchanged, highlighting natural features and patterns.
Protected ones are extremely family-friendly leather and suitable for frequently used furniture in the home.
Aesthetics of your home
Nikhil and I have recently done a little redo and it is still going on with our decor, changing colours and aesthetics so wanted to make our sofa the main focus of our room. It is more of a rustic countryside touch with more wooden chests and leather kind of furniture to go along. Also, did this wall behind to add more light to the room.
Choosing the size
It again depends on the size of your room, family and preference. While choosing the sofa, we came across 2 seaters, 3 seaters, L shape and big size sofa for the bigger homes. We have opted for 3 seaters sofa with 2 recliners for our home.
Recliner or Normal
This time kids really wanted to have a recliner sofa at home so that they can laze too but do remember when going for a recliner or normal sofa. It again depends on the space you have as a recliner occupies more space than the normal sofa both ways in front as well as behind the sofa.
While customising ur sofa, I decided to go for a USB port as well because I am usually working on my phone as this is super handy all the time.
Delivery
Whenever you are buying a piece of customised furniture, please do check for the lead time because when we have placed this order the delivery took more than usual time due to less manpower during the covid. Usually, HomestoLife the delivery frame is 8 weeks.
We got the notification message a week ahead with the timings so as to avoid failed delivery or cancellation.
