Shuǐ Gastrolounge – a new food destination in heart of the city

Shuǐ Gastrolounge
We are here in Singapore from few years now and many a times we tend to give a miss to those touristy hot spots. Clarke Quay is one place which I usually don’t go on weekends because of the busy nightlife it is crowded especially when you are dining with kids.
A couple of weeks back, we found a hidden gem “Shui Gastrolounge” just beside the river and first thing my son noticed the word “Shui”  and said, “This is a mandarin word”. Is this a Chinese restaurant?
Shuǐ gastrolounge is a multi-concept restaurant and bar where you can savour Pan-Asian dishes just cooked to enhance your taste-buds.
Shuǐ Gastrolounge has a very classy Interior looks with brick style walls and this kind of arrangement gives a feel of an open style space not making it too formal place to dine. Shuǐ Gastrolounge is one of the lounge where for the first time I have seen – 3 different sitting arrangement to enjoy a cosy meal.
Rest half of the sitting arrangement has slightly dim lights with high chairs and perfectly going with their main bar with open style kitchen.
They have got a lovely collection of wines and spirits in their restrobar.
Prices are marked on the bottles so you can just go ahead and pick up your favourite one, head straight to counter and pay. Luckily, you won’t get a shock after having your drinks and paying some ridiculous amount.
You can choose to dine and drink Al fresco enjoying  the Deejay night every Friday and live band on every Saturday starts at 8 pm.
What a lovely combination where you can enjoy music, dine, awesome surrounding and they even provide a TV screen for all those football fans to enjoy the match. Not just this you can get one-for-one deals on beer while enjoying the match. I am sure you don’t want to miss this place.
We opt for 3rd sitting arrangement where we had comfortable sofa to enjoy our dinner sitting beside the river and looking the entire place lighten up. Since we were dining with kids and they won’t sit at one place, this was a perfect option and I am glad they have this option which is just nice for parents.
We started with non- alcoholic Lime juice( $5) and it was blended nicely and so refreshing.
Since we have a Satay fan at home, we had to go for it. He can have all this by himself relishing every bit of Satay Skewers served with peanut sauce ($10). We ordered a mix of chicken and mutton, you can choose from chicken/mutton/beef.
This is one of the Chef recommended starters in their menu Shui’s Signature drumlets ($10) and it was really crispy from outside and tender from inside. Since it was not much spicy so kids can enjoy it as well.

I am not a seafood lover but we tried Sambal Tumis Prawn Bowl ($10) and prawns were really nice with spicy sambal. Only thing I felt that presentation didn’t do any justice to it as prawns were hidden in Sambal .

While waiting for our main course, Aayan enjoyed his lime juice.

and their very friendly staff to serve us and recommending the best dishes to try out.

Here is our first dish and it looked delicious! We ordered Shoyu Salmon ($24) which was pan grilled salmon served with truffled mashed potatoes, asparagus, mixed tomatoes and topped with chilli and garlic aioli. It tasted yummy and salmon was nice with flavours.

Other one we ordered was Shui Duo Chicken fillet ($20) which was too filling and portion was quite big after eating starters. It is a harashi rubbed grilled chicken fillet and lemongrass and ginger infused grilled chicken served with mashed potatoes and greens. Chicken was quite tender and mashed potatoes tastes really nice.

We accompanied our main course with Salad of the day ($8) and if you wish to add anything additional tuna, prawns, smoked duck, salmon or chicken ($3). I am more of a salad person who can eat more salad than food and by adding chicken, it was very filling.

We got to meet Mr Lawrence Khong, the owner of Shui Gastrolounge which is opened recently in December 2015. I find him really passionate about this new restaurant and knowing that he is not from F&B industry he has ventured into it. He is putting so much efforts  to know the reviews and feedback from diners. While talking to him, I came up with a couple of things and he took them very positively and even asked that if anything we didn’t like or recommend to improve which I really appreciate.

Don’t know how many people actually admire it but all those who are into cooking or love cooking, we have a passion to make a recipe book or refer to it even in this digital world. He showed us his cheat sheet for the same.
Overall I will say food was good with a big portion especially for the main course which we ordered, flavours were quite nice and I have even tried some new variety of food too. This place seems nice to spend an evening with family or friends.

Thank you so much for inviting us for food tasting, no monetary compensation was made. All the reviews mentioned above are personal based on our experience at the place.
