On Day 2, we started our day at 8 am and took a train to Champs-Elysees to explore the main tourist area in Paris. We started from Petit Palais, Alexander Bridge, Jardin des Tuileries, Louvre Museum, Galeries Lafayette, and Arc de Triomphe.
If you are travelling with young kids, just want to highlight that there are no escalators or lifts at Paris train stations, so do keep in mind if you are bringing luggage or strollers etc you need to carry everything down the stairs. we have planned to explore the places in that particular area.
Paris Day 2 : Petit Palais
Our first stop was Petit Palais, do you know that “Petit Palais” means a small palace in English? The Petit Palais is a beautiful building featuring several art collections dating from Antiquity to 1920. It is also known as the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts.
It is definitely worth a visit and you can spend hours inside this place has such a lovely collection of art and sculptures. There is no entry fee to this museum which was a little surprising.
Don’t go by what its name says as this place is not a small one for sure as we were inside the Palace was almost 2 hours and when we went outside it was raining so again waited inside only.
The nearest Train station to Petit Palais
-
Champs-Élysées – Clemenceau • 3 min walk
-
Invalides • 6 min walk
Inside there is such a beautiful peristyle garden, meaning an open garden inside the dwelling surrounded by a continuous porch formed by a row of columns and it is decorated with a giant fresco. You should definitely sit down and spend some time. Surely, it will look lovely during the evening too.
There was one of the walls where kids can spend some time colouring it.
Here is the map how what Day 2 was like in Paris-
We headed to explore more as the rain stopped, it was very cold and windy outside. We initially thought of going on the cruise but since it was raining and gloomy without much visibility we dropped the idea and explored the nearby places walking.
Pont Alexander III ( Alexander III Bridge)
The Pont Alexandre III is quite a famous bridge in Paris, so surely you won’t miss the Gold Statues up there on the bridge. A little french here too as Pont means bridge in French.
This bridge is considered as the most elegant bridge that crosses the Seine River.
From the bridge, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the building as well as the Eiffel Tower, which makes it a popular place to enjoy a stroll at any time of the day or night.
We walked along Quai d’Orsay just parallel to River Seine even though it is such a long stretch but the kids didn’t complaint once rather we all enjoyed walking on this stretch while enjoying the view and architecture.
If you are walking here during the earlier part of the day you will find it lesser crowded and even traffic is not that much.
Don’t miss the warm roasted chestnut on your way…. it tastes sooooo good!!
Here we are at Jardin des Tuileries before entering Louvre as even in the morning hours there was a long queue.
Another tip: You can purchase the entry ticket to the Louvre for €15 or you can purchase it online for €17 which allows you quick entry, rather than waiting in the typically long queue. Do note that entrance is free for everyone aged under 18 all year, and under 26s on Friday evenings. On the first Saturday of each month between 6pm and 9.45pm, and all day on Bastille Day (14 July), entrance is free for everyone.
You may like to plan accordingly but on the free days, it does get quite crowded. I have mentioned this if in case you are planning around that time.
Avenue Des Champs Elysees entire road is where you will find all your brands -lifestyle, luxury… Dior, Chanel, LV, Celine, Sephora, Apple, Tiffany and so on… you can spend as much time as you want here. You can plan your timing accordingly.
There is one Galeries Lafayette at Champs Elysees also.
Here we are at Arc De Triomphe, it is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, France standing at the western end of the Champs Elysees at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle.
This was our Day 2 and we tried to cover as much as we could with kids and read here for Day 3….
